UniverCity - Change log

I didn’t make as much progress this month as I would have liked. A lot of time was spent on internals when I should really be focusing on gameplay so I can plan to release this. Hopefully the next month will be better. Gameplay Paper planes Students can now randomly throw paper planes around the room during lessons. Currently this is just a visual effect but it may have other effects later.

Spent this month doing a bit of clean up both for the code and the assets. In general I think the game feels a bit better now. Gameplay Highlights when hovering over students/staff/objects Added a highlight to students, staff and objects when you mouse over them to help being able to see which one you are actually selecting. Objects are only selectable when editing a room. The highlight is a different color depending on what is being hovered over.

Gameplay Saving and Loading Built UniverCities can finally be saved and loaded at a later date. I may make breaking changes to the format whilst i’m working on this but it will be stable by the time the game releases. For rooms this just saves the placement instructions in order and replays the placement of the room/objects on load. The only downside is if the rules of valid placements change loading can fail.

Trying out including videos in this post to make things more interesting. I’ve tried my best to keep their size as small as I could. Gameplay Inspectors and VIPs Inspectors and VIPs will occasionally spawn and visit the player’s UniverCity. Inspectors will generally focus on a specific subject while VIPs will visit the whole building. If they are happy with the state of things they will reward the player with a rating increase and money.

Gameplay Stylish conversion complete + UI Improvements The conversion from the old UI system to stylish is complete. This did take a while but things look and work better because of it. It also made adding new windows/menus like the options menu much easier. This change also comes with a swap in font from Indie Flower to Schoolbell. Schoolbell still gives off the handdrawn feel that the previous font but is much easier to read in-game (and easier to render without issues).
